Breed: Terrier Age: 3 Years Home: New York
This is my favorite pose in the country, looking out over a bluff to the wilderness preserve and down to the bay. Have to check this out so often to be sure all critters are made aware that this is Sylvia's Domain. |
Hello SPOT & Playdog Folks, Our family just saw your great new magazine and website for the first time last week...our subscription is now on the way. Sure hope you grow quickly from a pup to be big success. We are pleased to enclose some recent photos of our dear dog......Sylvia SweetLips......which she explains below. She's almost three years old (by best guesses) and is definitely a Terrier (Mixed) and some "experts" have called her a Parson Russell Terrier....a longer legged and longer silky hair cousin of the littler Jack Russell. Anyway, she's a true grit delight. Her weight is now a constant 26 pounds and her height is 17 inches to the shoulder. We live both in Locust Valley on the North Shore of Long Island, NY, and in New York City, about half time in each place. The country home is in a wilderness preserve that includes the wetlands down to the bay at Mill Neck Creek next to Oyster Bay, where there is plenty of running room and critters to chase. Having some City friends stay over weekends is really fun so they can become country dogs too. Sylvia's several days a week in Manhattan is her City life with different kinds of action and friends, like the pack of 8 dogs that she joins each City day for a 2 hour romp in Central Park, learning lots of new social graces and, of course, dirty tricks. And swapping stories, mostly about country critters. When Sylvia came to us about two years ago, she was about 6 months old (we think) and wild and crazy (for sure) from North Shore Animal League. We immediately said she looks and acts so much like the main character in the Broadway play "Sylvia" starring Sara Jessica Parker as the lead --a dog of course-- several years ago that she instantly became our own Sylvia on sight. Her flying hair and energies are still that way....all over the place. The new SweetLips name came a little later when Daddy who remembered it was George Washington's favorite dog's name.....so now that's mainly her unofficial country name. While still a youngster and not very calmed down, Sylvia ate some poison that must have been carried onto the property by a raccoon or crow (awful creatures) and nearly passed on, but the Old Country Vet (who was Mommy's pup's vet many years ago) worked hard to save her with transfusions and treatments that brought her back in a week. Now she's more careful and hasn't gotten in trouble again...but enormously curious still. In Summer, Sylvia loves to go out in the Bay with Daddy in the Kayak, gliding through reeds where the ospreys, herons and egrets catch fish and sometimes jumping out to swim alongside for a while too. Best Regards, Sylvia SweetLips, c/o Michael and Dee S. |
